Background

With over 50 people in the department the Team Leaders need to manage the throughput of the work and maintain high levels of productivity, employee engagement and a good sense of fun! You will plan, co-ordinate, supervise and report upon the work activities of a team; providing effective communication, leadership, motivation, training and development in such a way that the operational effectiveness of the business is maintained, and all daily targets are met.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Through an understanding of the forecasts and budgets, you will plan your team’s resources including overtime hours and taking on temporary workers to ensure we maintain service levels throughout the year. 
  • Manage the team and plan the workload on a day to day/week to week basis to ensure that the department delivers the business requirements, service levels and all KPI’s are achieved, highlighting delays and issues.
  • Have a clear understanding of the ability and capability of each member of your team through the measurement of productivity and performance.
  • Conduct frequent and regular 1-1 meetings with each team member and, where appropriate, agree a training and development plan for them.
  • Direct the daily activity to ensure a safe, secure, clean and fair work environment for the team
  • Complete formal HR related meetings and documentation such as return to work interviews, holiday approvals, absence management and annual appraisals. 
  • Think customer and ensure that it is at the front of all actions carried out by the team. 
  • Build and demonstrate an in-depth operational awareness of all areas of the business, working closely with the Shift Manager sharing thoughts and ideas to move the site forward.
  • Develop, implement and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers 
  • Understand and actively promote our core values and behaviours. 

 

Person Specification 

 

Experience

  • Leadership in a similar role or within a distribution or retail environment.  
  • Previous experience of managing a team of 15 or more. 

 

Technical Skills

  • Ability to manage, develop and motivate people
  • Ability to coordinate activities. The successful candidate will be leading a team on a daily basis and be results orientated to achieve targets
  • Self confident and professional attitude
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent personal organisation skills and customer focused
  • IT literate including competent use of Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Experience of investigation and disciplinary processes and meetings
  • Able to meet changing and challenging demands with enthusiasm
  • Can demonstrate initiative to question accepted norms and innovate
